Career Resources for LGBTQIA+ Students

LGBTQIA+ students may have unique career planning and job search questions and considerations.  The Career Services & Internships Office has identified select resources and websites that you may find helpful in your career planning process and job search.  Our career advisors are all Safe Zone allies and are happy to meet with you, providing a safe space to support your career development and job search success. In addition, be sure to utilize the resources of the GLBTA Pride Center here at BSU.

  • The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) provides individuals assistance if they have been discriminated against.
  • America’s Best Employers For Diversity according to Forbes.
  • Coming Out at Work is a resource, produced by The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), that assists one in the decision to come out at work and how to go about doing it.
  • GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) specifies what legal protections one has in the state of Massachusetts.
  • Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index is the national benchmarking tool on corporate policies, practices, and benefits pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer employees.
  • Indeed.com provides an excellent article and video on finding LGBTQ+ friendly employers and provides job search advice.
  • Out & Equal is the premier global nonprofit organization working exclusively on LGBTQ+ workplace equality. Through worldwide programs, strategic corporate partnerships, and sought-after events, Out & Equal helps LGBTQ+ individuals realize their fullest, most authentic potential, while supporting organizations in creating cultures of belonging for all.

  • Diversity Employers is a print and digital publicationoffering a job board with career opportunities that specifically target new college graduates of diverse backgrounds in every industry nationwide.
  • DiversityWorking.com is a diversity job search site for all ethnic and sexual orientation groups.
  • Idealist.org is a top nonprofit/human services job search site that has a dedicated LGBTQ issue area filter.
  • LGBTQ Career Network is a job board for LGBTQ community.
  • LGBTConnect is a job board connecting employers with the LGBT community.
  • Nemnet Diversity Recruitment helps recruit and retain diverse Teachers, Administrators, and Coaches.
  • PharmaDiversity Job Board focuses on matching diverse candidates with all types of jobs in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and healthcare industries from accountants and administrators to sales to research.
  • Out and Equal is a job board for LGBTQ community.
  • WorkplaceDiversity.com is an online community that includes resources and tools to help students connect with employers across multiple career fields and offers a job-board for corporate recruiters who are seeking experienced diverse candidates.

  • LGBTQ Professional and Student Associations is a list, produced by The Human Rights (HRC), of LGBTQ+ Professional and Student Associations, broken down by industry.
  • LinkedIn is a great networking tool. Join networking groups that are in the LGBTQ+ Community such as Out & Equal’s LGBTQ+ CareerLink Network. Just search LGBTQ in groups.
  • National LGBT Chamber of Commerce is the largest advocacy organization dedicated to expanding economic opportunities and advancements for LGBTQ people, and the exclusive certifying body for LGBTQ-owned businesses.
  • Out 4 Undergrad invites a diverse class of high-achieving LGBTQ2+ students to unique conferences, where they’re inspired to pursue ambitious careers.
  • Out Professionals is the leading nonprofit networking organization for LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer/Questioning) professionals in the USA.
  • Out In Tech is the world’s largest non-profit community of LGBTQ+ tech leaders.
