Intro to Career Services and Internships – The advisor will provide a broad overview of our resources including appointment types, events, programs, and online tools such as FOCUS, Handshake, and What Can I Do With This Major?
Choosing A Major – The advisor will help the student conduct self-assessment, explore majors and careers, and narrow down their options for choosing a major.
Career Counseling – The advisor will help the student understand what career options are available to them based on their major as well as their values, interests, personality, and skills using a variety of tools and resources.
Resume/Cover Letter – The advisor will critique the student’s draft of a resume or cover letter for content, formatting, spelling, and grammar while teaching the student to align the resume or cover letter to industry standards.
Internship Advising – The advisor will discuss the internship process at BSU, how to search for an internship, set a realistic timeline, outline action steps, and highlight online resources including internship search sites. Funding opportunities and academic credit will also be discussed.
International Internships – The advisor will discuss how to research organizations that offer international internship experiences by placing students in an internship abroad, or in major cities across the U.S., during the summer.
The Washington Center Program – Spend a semester in Washington, DC! During this appointment, we will explain the options available, talk through the application process, and discuss how to fund the experience.
Semester in the City Program – Gain experience through an internship in Boston where you can make a difference in the world and earn a full semester of college credit while building skills to solve humanity’s toughest challenges. Learn more about eligibility for the program, the application process, and how to fund the experience.
Hack.Diversity Program – Learn about this nine-month fellowship for Black and Latinx students interested in tech that provides technical training and a paid summer internship in the Boston area within software engineering, data analytics, or mechanical engineering.
Networking – The advisor will discuss how to develop and maintain a professional network using a variety of methods including LinkedIn and informational interviewing.
LinkedIn Profile Review – The advisor will review the student’s LinkedIn profile for content and help them understand all of the options for adding information and experiences to complete their profile.
Effective Interviewing – The advisor will talk about the do’s and don’ts of interviewing, employer expectations, professional dress, commonly asked questions, and follow-up.
Practice Interview – The advisor will conduct a “real” interview and offer feedback. The student is required to submit an internship or job description of interest and a resume to the advisor in advance. Interview attire can be critiqued as well but is not required. *It is recommended that the students complete an Effective Interviewing appointment prior to a mock interview if possible.*
Job Search – The advisor will discuss how to organize a job search, set a realistic timeline, outline action steps, and highlight online resources including job search sites.
Grad School Advising – The advisor will discuss the graduate school timeline, application process, and how to search for graduate programs.
