As a Career Advisor, I have heard time and time again from graduated students that they “wish they had done an internship”. Upon entering the job search, they often realize how critical it is to have internship experience on your resume. For the employer, internships show that a candidate has experience in a professional work setting and has started to apply classroom knowledge to the real world while developing new skills. For the student, internships offer the chance to test-drive a career before committing to it. Students can discover what they enjoy, build career confidence, develop valuable skills, and connect with people who can become future mentors or colleagues. Moreover, annual research from the National Association of Colleges & Employers consistently shows that students who complete a paid internship receive more job offers on average and report higher starting salaries than students without internship experience.

How to Find an Internship Event Page

Rather than sitting through a traditional presentation, you’ll rotate through interactive roundtables focused on the tools and resources you need to get started with your internship search. 

You’ll learn how to: 

• Build a search strategy using an internship guide, search tracker, target list, and LinkedIn networking tips. 

• Explore funding and academic credit options, including stipend opportunities and the process for earning credit at BSU. 

• Discover signature internship programs such as Semester in the City, Virtual Internships, MGH Aspire, Project Onramp, and more. 

• Use Handshake and other search engines to find opportunities and make your online search more effective. 

• Create an action plan with a checklist to set goals and keep your search moving forward. 

Ready to get started? Stop by the How to Find an Internship event anytime between 2 – 4 PM on Tuesday, October 6th. You don’t need to stay for the entire event, just come when you can and leave with practical tools and next steps for your internship search.
