Breaking News Anchor
WLNE-TV/ABC6 in the beautiful city of Providence, R.I., is looking for a breaking news anchor. The candidate must have a passion for news and ability to connect with viewers. The right candidate will have strong journalist judgment, and a compelling live presence with the ability to command breaking news both in-studio and remote.
This role is for one of the key team members on our growing morning show. This news anchor will present breaking news and traffic throughout the newscast informing viewers to what is happening in their neighborhoods as well as being the primary fill-in anchor.
Responsibilities:
–Monitor, write, and update breaking news throughout newscasts and present the latest information from the ‘breaking news desk.’
–Monitor and report local traffic incidents and commute times for viewers.
–Assist in writing/editing scripts to ensure clarity and accuracy.
–Deliver news on camera in a professional manner.
–Ability to ad-lib with co-anchors.
–Report live on-location during big news events in our viewing area.
–Plan and set up stories to air on weekday morning newscasts.
–Produce and write day-of news content for later newscasts.
–Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
–Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines throughout the day.
–Organized and detailed-oriented.
–Strong collaboration and communications skills.
–Knowledge of a working newsroom.
–Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a similar field preferred.
–Previous on-air experience.
–A team player who is willing to jump in and assist when needed.
