Science & Math

Students pursuing Science or Math majors can utilize their skills in various sectors, including data and analytics, research, government, non-profit, NGOs, business, and education. We recommend students utilize their time at BSU to conduct internships, pursue research opportunities, or participate in experiential learning to explore career options.

Engineering

Engineering involves combining math and science skills to solve real-world problems. Your specialty within engineering will determine what aspect of the problem you are attempting to solve. At BSU, we offer a Photonics and Optical Engineering program. A photonics engineer specializes in photonics, which involves studying and applying light and its interactions with various materials and devices. These engineers work at the intersection of physics and engineering, focusing on generating, manipulating, and detecting light in multiple forms, including lasers, optics, and fiber optics. Photonics engineers develop technologies that harness the unique properties of light for applications such as telecommunications, medical imaging, sensors, and manufacturing processes.

Photonics engineers often collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including physicists, electrical engineers, and materials scientists, to bring cutting-edge optical technologies from concept to practical implementation, shaping the landscape of modern technology and scientific research. Sample career options include Optical Engineers, Laser Engineers, Fiber Optics, Quantum Optics, Optoelectronics Engineering, Biophotonics Engineering, Photonic Materials, Sensors and Imagining, and Photonics Manufacturing.
