Meet Roger Perez ‘27

When Roger arrived at the Job & Internship Fair, he came prepared, and determined. As a Finance major graduating in Spring 2027, his goal is clear: secure a position in the finance field and one day become a senior partner at a firm. With support from Career Services & Internships (CSI), he turned a single fair experience into multiple interviews and professional momentum.
Before the Fair: Getting Prepared & Building Confidence
Roger started his preparation early. He met with CSI staff to review his resume, talk through interview strategies, and discuss how to navigate the fair with confidence and purpose.
To help him look and feel his best, he also visited the Bear Essentials Closet, where he received a suit for his upcoming interviews. That extra boost of confidence made all the difference.
At the Fair: Breaking the Ice & Building Connections
Roger spoke with 13 employers, many from assurance and auditing firms. What stood out most was the meaningful, human side of those conversations.
He shared that connecting with real people—asking what they do, how they got where they are, and hearing their stories “broke the ice” and made the fair feel much more approachable. Instead of feeling intimidated, he walked away energized and inspired.
After the Fair: Following Up & Taking Action
Once the fair ended, Roger made a list of the employers he felt the strongest connection with. From there, he:
- Applied to positions through Handshake and employer websites
- Sent personalized follow-up emails to everyone he met
- Received responses from every employer he reached out to
His preparation and follow-through paid off quickly.
Interview Success: From Nerves to Confidence
Roger soon found himself with multiple interviews, including:
- Leonard Mulherin & Greene
- Wolfe & Company P.C
- Enterprise Mobility
He admitted that interviews felt nerve-racking at first—but they turned out to be far less intimidating than expected. Roger created a personal “cheat sheet” of talking points, practiced his responses, and leaned on CSI for support.
“Once you get informed and jump into it, it’s a different experience and it’s easier than you expect,” Roger shared. “I’m glad I did it.”
Looking Ahead:
Roger is now moving toward second-round interviews and is well on his way to securing a internship finance. His journey shows what can happen when preparation, confidence, and support come together.
His advice to other students: “Start early, show up prepared, follow up, and use the resources available to you. The results speak for themselves.”
